10. Malta, 316 square kilometers
Malta is an archipelago of seven islands located in the Mediterranean Sea. This small country has an area of only 316 square kilometers. This archipelago is inhabited by only three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino.
These three islands are also the largest islands in Malta. The country has a population of 4,466,547, making it one of the most densely populated countries in the world.

The Hypogeum, a 5,000-year-old underground structure located in the city of Paola in Malta, reflects this fact.
